Data Collection Tool (DCT) v1.0.1

Links

Quick Links

Overview

The data collection tool (DCT) provides a user interface to create handwriting datasets by collecting handwriting data samples from different writers. Given the script and the data elements to be collected, writers contribute to the dataset by giving their handwriting samples. The output of the tool is a set of UNIPEN files organized in a directory structure, containing writer profiles, collection procedure details and the digital ink.

Highlights

Source code for the DCT is not released with version 1.0.1.Only character or word level data collection is supported (not larger elements such as paragraphs or pages of writing). Data elements are prompted only in Unicode format to the writer and not as a gif or voice message etc.

Supported Platforms

DCT 1.0.1 is supported on following platforms:

  • Tablet PC with Microsoft Windows XP TabletPC Edition
  • Desktop PC with Microsoft Windows XP or Microsoft Windows 2000 operating system

System Requirements

Implementation Details

DCT is implemented in VC++/MFC

Enhancements & Bugs Fixed

Bug Description User Impact
Configuration details dialog box not accepting manual inputs.

The value of number of components combo box was discarded and initialized to zero, on manual entry of number of components.

The value can be entered manually as well as or it can be selected from a drop down list.

Code Enhancements

  • The memory leaks in DCT have been fixed in 1.0.1
  • The version 1.0.1 follows the standards for GUI. Mandatory fields should have pale-yellow background and black text color

Known Issues

  • Clicking the “Change configuration” button results in the loss of all the writer information entered information in the edit . The configuration details should be changed only by the supervisor. The process of data collection starts by changing the configuration details which is done by the supervisor. So the writer information should be entered only after the configuration changes have been done.

  • Incase the user presses the next button by chance without completing the current symbols/words, there is no provision to go back, ie editing the samples given before is not possible.

  • To run the tool in a system without a full installation of Visual studio (with unicode support) include the following DLLs in the WINNT/SYSTEM32 folder. Incase Visual studio is installed, check if the following DLLs are present in the SYSTEM32 folder before running the tool :
    1. mfc40u.dll
    2. mfc42.dll
    3. MFC42UD.DLL
    4. msvcp60.dll
    5. MSVCP60D.DLL
    6. msvcrt.dll
    7. msvcrt20.dll
    8. msvcrt40.dll
    9. MSVCRTD.DLL
