Community

There are several ways in which the user and research community can participate in the Lipi Toolkit effort:

  • Use the toolkit to build interesting applications
  • Explore different preprocessing, features and pattern recognition techniques
  • Write new tools to support new pen-based devices
  • Port the toolkit to new platforms
  • Build recognition engines for new scripts and shape sets
  • Create handwriting datasets
  • Review and write documentation

Several individuals from IISc and HPL contributed to LipiTk 1.0, and will continue to contribute to future releases. Some more ongoing activities outside of HPL are listed under Roadmap.

Several ideas for such contributions can be found under Roadmap and also under Resources. If you would like to contribute the outcome of your efforts (no obligation except for GPL'd components), kindly read the following.

Contributing code to the Core Toolkit

Your source code contribution can be in the form of a preprocessing function, feature implementation or recognition module.  We welcome your contribution to the toolkit, subject to the following conditions:

  • It makes a useful extension to the toolkit.
  • The source code follows Lipi Toolkit standards for code, configuration files etc.
  • The source code is original code, free from any licensing restrictions.
  • The copyright is assigned to Hewlett-Packard. This is only to simplify distribution, you and your organization will get full credit for your contribution as author (see the LipiTk 1.0 page for examples).

Other code contributions

You are welcome to contribute standalone tools, subject to the same conditions as above. These would not be part of LipiTk releases but would be hosted as standalone tools.

Other contributions

You can also contribute application demos, and well-tested pre-built recognizers for hosting on this site. These will not be part of the official releases, or be officially supported by the LipiTk Development Team.

In all these matters, the decision of the Lipi Toolkit Development Team at HP Labs India is final.
